I think its about society and the world revolving around everything that's wrong. We think too much on money and fame and are willing to do anything for it at any cost. I applaud hedley for it. Instead of writing another broken love gone wrong song they speak of something that actually has meaning. Who cares if your not a fan of them but just for the sake of the future state of the world read what they're saying.

This is about the arbitrary nature of "fame" in today's society and the craving people have to get it. It has nothing to do with the you. S. Or Canada specifically, but is rather a commentary on the degradation of North American society as a whole.
"The All American dream is getting 15 (minutes of fame) for free": A commentary on the sense of entitlement to fame that people have and how they expect things to be handed to them because that's all they ever see in the media; "stars" being given everything they want. It's saying that in general, people want the fast track to success or stardom without doing any of the work.

I think that this song is about how the American society is always leaning towards how people look and not who they actually are, or if they have any talent whatsoever. The line "and all the hotties on the hills just getting rich and making deals while you and me are watching TV" explains to me that maybe he's trying to say that because we might not be up to society's standards on how we should look, we are still sitting on the sofa watching television because society is idealist. Society has in turn turned us into idealists ourselves, and this song is basically ripping on the fact that if you want to be rich and famous and "go somewhere in life", you have to be society's version of beautiful, hot, whatever.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of this song; it's something I'll listen to but I won't buy it, and for me it's just not the Hedley I know and love.
Based on reviews I've heard though, I don't think many people get the meaning behind the lyrics. I don't like them as much because I prefer the meaningful lyrics I can relate to, but I appreciate them for what they are.
I believe the message in this song is, contrary to popular belief, not pro-American. They're not dropping their Canadian identity- they're creatively reinforcing it. The music style might be a bit of a sell-out, but the lyrics are satirizing American society, not glorifying it. They're criticizing how skin-deep the American dream of riches and fame is. The American dollar bill on the cover isn't "going American," it's there to remind us who the song is about. Canada's got class (;
