It's about a girl who has always been conservitive and has never done anything out side the box. She is living how people have told her instead of doing what she feels is right. Now she is taking the "other road" with someone who is showing her another side of life. The song is about doing something that she wants to do but doesn't think would be right. The speaker of the song is saying, do what you want and everything will be fine, because you only live once and you can be perfect when you go to heaven.

I think this song is about a goody two shoes type girl who becomes very ill and starts dying. The guy who loves her wants to help her live every day like it's her last and when she recovers from illness, the lyrics heavens gonna wait for you means that she got better and isn't gonna die. Personally I like the way people use this with the hunger games as a reference to katniss winning the games.
