Seether – No Jesus Christ lyrics
Before you hedge those bets you placed against me
Be reticent of fortunes they foretell
Your verbal defecation I can't wash away despite myself
Your vanity, it seems, has served you well

You're so quick to choose the path walked by the righteous
So you can go and nest among the weak
The innocent observers will refuse to find the lie within
Renew the disappointment of the meek

You're no Jesus Christ!
You're no Jesus Christ!

Put the gun in my mouth and pull the trigger
I feel so alive here
Put the gun in my mouth it tastes so bitter
I feel so alive here
You're no Jesus Christ!
You're no Jesus Christ!

You keep takin' over
I keep rollin' over
I can't take it anymore [x2]

Before you hedge those bets you placed against me
Be reticent of fortunes they foretell
Your verbal defecation I can't wash away despite myself
Your vanity, it seems, has served you well

You keep takin' over
I keep rollin' over
I can't take it anymore [x4]

Are you guys kidding me. This song has no actual connotation to the Bible or God. He wrote this about his ex, amy lee from evanescence, about how she was such a goodie-two-shoes, pretending to be so perfect and always pushing him down, laying the blame on him and his problems. So in this song he recognizes the fact that yes, he does have problems, but he's sick of her being suck a hypocrite and bringing him down.

I think the meaning of this song should not be offensive to Christians at all, and I am a bible believing Christian. The author is obviously directing its meaning at those who believe to be self-righteous in and of themselves, and in doing so are fools, because Christ Jesus was the only righteous man to ever walk the Earth, and for someone to walk around as if they're holier than thou, well "you're no Jesus Christ!"

I agree with rudefish. Firestar, you are most definitely entitled to your own opinion, but I personally do not believe that Seether is targeting Christians, specifically. I believe the song refers to religious extremists as a whole. People who take religion much to far, or try to force their opinions down other people's throats instead of respecting one another's right to their own personal belief system. But then again, that is, in part, what this song means to myself. Viewed by society, I believe that this song is about ignorance and fear and 'jumping onto the band wagon' religiously. No, no. Again, I am interpreting the song through my own opinion of it. Overall, this song is about how people need to respect one another's personal belief system, as stated before, and how humanity needs to realize that in a way, every religion is right, if it works for you personally. I apologize if this 'interpretation' makes no sense whatsoever. My mind is quite scattered about this topic.

Firestar. Be careful dude. I am certainly not a religious 'freak' as you so eloquently call them, but I think I would get my facts straight if I were you, before you post something completely random on the Net and embarrass urself! Where did Jesus ever sin. Pray-tell?
As far as the meaning of the song. I don't think he's speaking to Christians at all. I think he's generally saying take the thorn out of ur eye before you judge me.
I agree with Raichu & Jonathon. Besides, he's saying 'you're no Jesus' connoting that Jesus is perfect, and no one else is. Geez, its not that difficult! Even Seether admits it!
Firestar. Take heed of these lyrics urself perhaps. Before you put all Christians in the same pot, eh?

    It's not about jesus.
I think this song is about a person who's sick and tired of being judge and being told by other people to better. I guess he hates those self-righteous people who keeps telling him what to do. That's why he said you're no jesus- because that person has absolutely no right to say that he is wrong. Well that's about my own understanding of the song.
I'm also somehow a person who grew up in church and I can't see any religious connotations here.

I personally mean it is for those who cannot choose their own paths but must follow others. They go with what has been pushed down their throats and except it with a smile. Weak minded people who is scared and need to go with what everybody else tells them that is right. I think people who just excepts what a man wrote in a book and says this is how you are suppose to live, Are indeed weak minded. And I think this is what he is sending out. If you take a innocent person who has no knowledge of god according to the bible this person is going to hell because he is a heathen. That is what they told the indians before they threw blankets with smallpocs on them. In the name of God.

I don't understand how you people are seriously pulling any religious connotations out of these lyrics! I'm a somewhat religious person myself, but I'm not about to go around making ludicrous connections to religion, or the Church, or the Bible! The subject of almost *every* sentence in there is "you", and it's singular. It's obviously directed to just one person, and musemonster's explanation is spot-on.
Again "You're no Jesus Christ" simply means you are not perfect, you have serious faults. How can you make any other connections there?

Actually, the singer of this was, at one time, dating Amy Lee from Evanessance. While they were dating, he was doing drug. This caused Amy to leave him. So, in this song he's trying to say "well, you're not perfect either." Since our actual Jesus is perfect, he's just saying that, "yeah he made mistakes but, hey. you're not perfect either. " This shouldn't in anyway be taken offencive. He's not trying to say anything about Jesus.
Follow the band _ then you'll know.

We all have 2 sides to ourselves. The spirit of the right hand, the spirit of the left. What is "right" and what should be "left"? Maybe the spirit of the right is our divine inheritance and the spirit of the left serves us by presenting challenges for us to overcome. The challenges can be paralyzing, overwhelming, pushing us to our very edge and often seen as negative. This is the "No Jesus" Christ. Or anti-Christ. Overcome this naysayer that whispers defecation in your ear and you may overcome the anti-Christ. The time is Now. Learn to love.

If you all follow the band and know the history behind making Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces (the title pretty much speaks for itself) you would know that Shaun Morgan put much more thought and sweat and love and pain into these songs and it has actually nothing to do with all the Christian self-righteous pooh that you are trying to attach to it. The departure of guitarist Pat Callahan, front man Shaun Morgan's stint in rehab and breakup with Evanescence singer Amy Lee, and Morgan's brother's suicide all contribute to Finding Beauty's sense of confusion and frustration. Get educated or shut up already.

The song itself is ambiguous and targeted at a person the audience can't possibly know. But in response to firestar; how exactly does one go about getting one's own beliefs? There is nothing new under the sun, so in other words, everything you think is derived from something you learned somewhere else. There are no original thoughts. By that simple fact, we are all followers of something, so why not Jesus? You can't slam people for being followers since even leaders are followers of someone or something in the past. Anyone that says they're thoughts are unique is either a deceiver or deceived. Everything you do someone else did, the only choice in the matter is what world view you'll believe and who you'll follow. So lay off religious people. Everyone is a hypocrite, but at least religious folks realize it enough to turn to religion for redemption.

It doesn't sound like anyone knows for sure what the song is about exactly. Maybe he thinks someone is being self-righteous by supposedly finding Christ? Who knows. However, I feel the need to point out some things in other people's remarks. One cannot legitimately criticize any Christian without acknowledging their standard as the correct one; if so, you have then placed yourself under it because it is a universal standard and exclusive. If you honestly think that everyone has a right to believe what they want then that also includes those who believe in shoving religion down your throat; if that's what they believe. To say that Christians shouldn't play a role in government or reflect their ideas in government is completely unfounded discrimination. By what authority would you claim that other worldviews people have are acceptable but the Christian worldview is not? Are you not trying to now persuade others into your belief? Why shove it down our throat?. Nevertheless, the songwriter sounds as though he is not ready to forgive whoever it is that has wronged him. But, if we all lived in that way (unforgiving) what kind of world would we live in. And, if anyone wants to criticize Christ, perhaps its a good idea to go directly to the sources (Bible) and see what is revealed about Him there. Fools tend to make their folly known.

Wow. The phrase "You're no Jesus Christ" only means that you aren't perfect, that you are in fact human and sinful. That you make mistakes and shouldn't judge others for theirs. That's it, nothing about religion nothing about the devil or anything else. He could of just as easily said You're not perfect, only it would of sounded shitty and lame. Way to read into s*t that isn't there.

I think this is a song against all those "pentecostal" hypocrite church leaders who use Jesus Christ as an excuse to dominate week-minded people who they fill their churches with. Every time anyone tries to suggest a meaningful interpretation of a message from a spiritual sage in the context of the times these charismatic Church leaders slap us down and tell us that we must not think but only believe the way they want us to believe. "I feel so alive here" is sarcasm, it means "I might as well be dead". They have left a bitter tase in our mouths.
So as a result of the verbal defecation they spill out over "lost deamons" like us "condemned to hell", we are about to become what they accuse us of being -the scourge of God sent on Ragnarok to purge the world of its hypocrisy. The Macabrim who alone have the power to bury the armies of Gog.

This song isn't to one person specifically it is to all the super religious freaks in this world. Who think their god is so much better than everyone elses. Specifically the Christian religion (look what they've done to the us trying to mix religion with the government). He's basically telling all the people like that they are not jesus and even if they were he's far from perfect. He committed all of the sins that we are judged upon in this world. Step out of the cookie cutter world of christianity and get your own beliefs or just be yourself. We have enough people like that.

Listen guys. If you're gonna fight over this pathetic song, you can carry on if you like. I for one am only going to tell you both what this song is about.
This is a song about someone who didn't have a good relationship with God, who blames his creator for all the bad things that has ever happened to him. Clearly this is a work of satan himself.
If you have watched the movie: Tenacious D, you'll also figure out after a while that the devil was at work with millions of people who was watching at that time. There is no good in this song or that movie.
So if you come to this again, just realize if you want to serve God, or satan, because you have disobeyed one of the 10 Commandments.
