    I think that this song is a reflection of how children who go through such trauma deal with what has happened to them. You cannot assume to know what that does to a person, a child and thus I think there is no way you can judge the way they cope with it. I don't think this song speaks against god but against the person that has wronged them in the most horrible way. Ask what your questions would be towards a greater being if this happened to you. This song can also be towards any child abuser, anyone that has betrayed a child's trust not just a priest.

    I think it's talking about a boy who's father figure of the home is in the eye of the church. The father acts all righteous in front of people. He hides the truth. The truth is that he beats his son (step-son whatever). So that is why he is saying I'm not your Jesus. He is not only beaten like Jesus, but then the father apologies only to do it over again. Empty confessions. And where is this Jesus anyway because he isn't looking down on me or he'd save me(the? In his mind). Now the boy is a man. And he chooses not to forgive his father. Maybe the father has forgotten, but he broke the boy's spirit(he's not the same). But the boy will not forget because he is holding a grudge.

    I don't believe that people should always jump to the For God and Not for God standing when a song says something about God. I believe in God, None has a right to bash me for it as I have no right to bash others for not believing. Says in the Bible that God Put us here for us to make our choice. However this song will probably be very close to a lot of hearts. From being abused or molested. I enjoy this song now that with a open mind I seen the lyrics and understand the song better. I didn't understand in full hearing it but now I do and I would suggest this song to other believers and non believers. The song is what matters the message not our believes guys.

    This is about a kid gettin molested by a priest. Its a pretty intense song. I dig it tho. Because not only it being about a child being molested by a priest, but the song could have more meaning in other ways as well. Everyone says god will save you, and god forgives those who do wrong things, but when really god isn't there, its only the fact that religion tries to preach some iconic figure that has never been reserected. Like every religion, there is all the preach but no facts. Believe in yourself. And don't let others judge you or let you think that only god can judge you, you can only judge yourself. Have a nice one.

    The impression that I got from this is someone basically saying "well, when it all comes back to you, i'll get revenge for how you make me feel". It's all about losing trust in someone you thought you could rely on ("I thought you were a good man"), obviously because you don't really think this kind of thing could happen. And angelsamongus, just because someone can't forgive another for this doesn't make them a bad person. Living with this type of thing hurts. You don't forgive. You just try to forget. I'm inclined to agree with the latter two sentences from ladyofshadows in this case.

    I totally a agree with 'heretics scribe' with the song's meaning. I -for some reason- love the part where it goes (I thought you were a good man/ I thought you talked to god/ you Hippocratic, messianic/ and child abusing-turned-satanic.) Because Messianic comes from Messiah or "the liberator" One that was sent from god to help the people. Then it said "child abusing turned Satanic" and Satanic is basically the devil. As Heretics scribe said 'a wolf in sheep's clothes' which makes me think that this part of the song is saying that the abuser is a demon in disuse as a holy person. The hole song is simply amazing and I think it really speaks of the abuse that children have to endure and that is a very heavy burden they must carry for the rest of their lives.

    I definately agree with heretics scribe and ladyofshadows. Could not get more accurate, especially the former person. Finally somebody got it. I would just like to add on to the part that goes, 'when your world comes crashing down I want to be there' (Not relive). Because I feel this immensely. I'm waiting for the day to see it myself! I want to be there when your world comes crashing down. And although you won't ever read this it doesn't matter anymore!

    I think that a "simple" assumption that it is a priest is not deep enough. In the song he says "hippocratic" not "hypocritic," which would more likely refer to a doctor of some kind. I think it could refer to any religious authority figure, including a priest, or just a pillar of the religious community. And the apocalypse is way too deep for me, though possibly fitting with the band's name. "When your world comes crashing down" is a pretty popular phrase for when a person's life falls apart or they lose control and/or respect in the community. In this case, just the secret coming out would suffice.

    It's not a priest. He's saying "say your prayers and comb your hair" obviously what a parent says to their child. "you need a place to hide" is saying that he "practices what he preaches" out among the world, being a good christian, but when the doors are closed he is anything but, because he is abusive (not necessarily sexually). "you confess it all away, but it's only shit to me" The father believes that by going to confession, it wipes the sins away. But not in the child's eyes. "the innocence you spoiled, found a way to live" Children are innocent, meaning they are free from worry, and sin, and morality. These are all things we are taught, or pick up on. He was forced to learn earlier than most, and though he doesn't maintain the "forced beliefs" from his father, he has still managed to grow into an adult with a concept of right and wrong.
    Now for the stretch. "when your worlds come crashing down" I think is referring to the apocolypse. Where he subsequently says "I want to relive" and "Let me be the one to say, I'm not Jesus and you can't run away" Going back to the "child-abusing, turned-satanic" leads me to believe that his father has broken away from his religious beliefs and the "child" here is saying that if the father was right to begin with, and there is an "end of the world" He wants to "relive" through the tribulation period and seek out his father (who would be there having abandoned Jesus) and exact his revenge, because He may be able to turn from Jesus without immediate consequence, but he can't run from me (the abused child).

    This song is one of the best rock songs of this year but the lyrics are easy to misinterpret. If you pay attention to them carefully you see this song doesn't attack the Christianity but those who don't practice what they preach. I've witnessed personally that Jesus and the might of God are real powerful things but I'm the very last to deny that many Christian institutions are plagued by severe internal problems.

    My guess would be--as every other post here is pure conjecture--that the molestation was of a psychological nature, and it has nothing to do with priests, the catholic church, etc. All of that is a horror unto itself, sure enough. But we obsess to distraction from other matters just as important. Psychological and emotional abuse by the "priests" of the household, if you will, is just as horrible as a swift backhand or a fist, and in some cases more damaging. Sometimes for a lifetime. Recovery takes longer than that. Some people don't have that long, so they do the best they can. Give them their due, people.

    I think this song is about a child who was sexually abused by a man of god and has withdrawn his/herself from the christian religion because of his/her childhood expierance. If you belive in the christian faith then you know jesus forgave and jesus wasnt fair (in the sence that he always gave in and wasnt fair to himself). The molestor started feeling guilty and wanted redemption and instead the victim refuses to let the "man of god" be rid of his sin. Everytime the "theif of innosence" tries to forget the soul that he made lost, makes him relive it. That is my take on it, but however you choose to see it the song rocks!

    This song, as far as I can see by analyzing the lyrics and not going into so much detail, is about a grown man or woman who confronts their abusive and seemingly faithful religious figure from their past. This religious figure had apparently molested, beaten, and done many wrongs to the child over the course of their innocence. Though their innocence was fractured, the child stayed strong and continued to live on. Despite the fact that many people believe the child was traumatized away from religion because of this event, I believe the child attempted to pray even though all this was happening to them by a religious person. They attempted to, however it is quite obvious that they gave up on that thought and crumbled away from religion. Thus was due to the fact that the beatings and molestation continued. Once the child was fully grown, the child confronted the religious figure in which they confessed all of their sins towards their victim. Though the victim is not exactly ecstatic about it, it seems they want a little revenge. By saying "Your god ain't looking down on me! I'm not Jesus, I will not forgive!" The child states blatantly that they simply will not forgive the religious figure for their sins. Though it is not obvious if they simply left the religious figure to dwell in their sins or punished the figure themselves, it is clear that the child kept what happened a secret and had let the secret damage them throughout the years. Though I don't believe all religious people are bad, some become corrupt such as the religious figure spoken about within the song, and its a shame to see children go through such traumatic experiences.

    It's a song about kids that get abused by religious people. Talking about how they confess it all away, and feel that they are forgiven afterwards. And that may be the case, but he says he wont forgive. And for that, his god doesn't look down on him, because what the relgious man did was wrong. And he can beg for forgivness, and forgive himself. But the kids doesn't forget.

    It talks about child abuse, and how the children victims to child abuse or rape will not forgive their predators. It speaks about the anger of these children and how they are mad at being robbed of their innocence "which found a way to live". All this is shown int he first verse when he says "bury your desires, abberations fill your head", this is the writer describer the predator or the pedophile in other words.

    From the sounds of the lyrics and all the comments, this song has to do with some sort of abuse towards a child. And that child has pretty much turned his back on god possibly due to it. It might also have to do with how, as the song title says, "i'm not jesus". Yes, this is true because none of us are like jesus was, forgiving and forgetful. He doesn't care about before, he care about now. And holding jesus over someone's head is comepletly wrong and definetally not what god has called us to do. In all, it's a story about real life and things that are and will most likely happen everyday even if we try to stop it.

    I agree with the post that the writer is clearly addressing a priest who most likely molested Him or someone he loved or knew. I believe this because of several lyrics like "confessing sins away " and even thou we know that God is omnipresent, many religions teach that God cannot be in the presense of sin. Thus explaining your God wasn't there.
    You may not agree with my post but that is why we are discussing this in this forum. Just thank God that we live in a country or world were we may do so without repercussions.

    It seems everyone gets that there is some type of abuse. But I think another message is the ridiculousness of apologizing to god to be forgiven of your acts, rather than apologizing to the people you wronged. That praying for forgiveness is a cop out for not actually having to face the person you wronged. Its so easy to pray for forgiveness from god, but very hard to face an adult who's life you ruined for abusing them as a little kid. I think that's a meaning everyone has missed so far. Ultimately its a commentary on society that we take the easy way out. At least that's how I see it.

    I believe it is about a boy who maybe used to believe in god untill a revelation hit him and he saw "god's men" exactly what they are, mere humans even more weaker minded than the ordinary unknown man that passes by you on the street. So to end my take on it I believe that what Corey sings about is the way he sees things after he opens his eyes. A decaying world in which men who are supposed to be role models eagerly fall into temptation. Within Temptation.

    First of all, I need to say that I am a follower of Jesus Christ the Son of God. I love metal music and just recently discovered Apocalyptica. When I first heard this song, I wasn't sure about what it said so I looked up the lyrics here, and now I have a better understanding. It looks as though this song is about someone who was horribly abused by someone who called themselves a believer and now is not only turned against that person but against God as well. This is, sadly, very common. God truly would never condone child abuse. His kingdom belongs to such as these (children). Someone who claims to be a christian but is doing something as horrible as child abuse most likely does not really have the Holy Spirit within him. These people are not true representations of God. Please don't base your belief in God on how untrue christians act. God Bless!

    Apocalyptica said in an interview that it was basically calling out the sexual abuse within the church. With that being said, I feel like many of us who have dealt with abuse, have been abused by people who otherwise would have been an "upstanding citizen" and was well liked by people and was active in their local churches. For me personally, this is my song to my abuser who was everything I described above. So much so that regardless of previous accusations made before I was even born, my abuse went hidden for years, even though there were suspicions, but nobody was the wiser otherwise. He has since died and this was my celebration song. This song is for us survivors who are dealing with our abuse as adults now.

    The idea that this song is about a priest molesting a child is absurd. Writers want listeners to relate and feel what they feel. That would mean only. 0001% of the population could relate to this song. It's simply about a christian father that beats his son. And now his son is pissed. His dad acts like the perfect christian in public, but beats the s*t out of his son behind closed doors. Get your heads out of your asses people.

    Ya It's about a kid who was molested by a priest but it doesn't mean that there isn't a God. Ya priests mess up because they have a messed up way of looking at things but God is still there and Jesus will save. How many people out there have taken the time to really delve into this subject instead of just going with what people say about God. Ya people are going to mess up but that doesn't mean that there arnt good people out there just trying to make life better for the people out in the world. You live in a country built on faith and have no respect for it. I will be praying for you.

    It's pretty simple. I don't like this song because anyone who loves God would want to forgive anyway and the fact that religious leaders rape children should not reflect on faith in God and Jesus.
    I find it sad that a reflection on religion is Negative Morality when religion is quite the opposite. I believe that it is not really about religion at all. It's all about your personal relationship with your creator, and if you have faith then he will bless you with peace in your heart.
