To me it's like one of the lovers in not of the same world, a star crossed lovers type. But they would do anything to be with that person to make everything right, even if doing so tears their own families apart. They are trying to tell their lover that it hurts them to see how this difference between him is hurting both of them. And that the only way to make it right it to "make a deal with god" kind the ultimate solution for them to be together. Sounds cheesy and cliche. But I think of the twilight sagas. Vampires, but in a tasteful passionate romantic kind of way. Not gory like most vampire stories/movies. It's beautiful in a immortal. Vampire way.
