This song is referring to the movie and book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson. Bat Country is referring to when the character Raoul Duke "sees" huge bats flying in the air and his attorney Dr. Gonzo stops the car, Duke says: We can't stop here. This is bat country.
The Final line "I'm too weird to live and much too rare to die" is also from a line in the book where Duke describes Dr. Gonzo as "A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."
