Avenged Sevenfold – Bat Country lyrics
"He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man"

Caught here in a fiery blaze, won't lose my will to stay.
I try to drive all through the night,
The heat stroke ridden weather, the barren empty sights.
No oasis here to stay, the sand is singing deathless words to me.

Chorus
Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction.
My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone).
No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention.

As I adjust to my new sights the rarely tired lights will take me to new heights.
My hand is on the trigger I'm ready to ignite.
Tomorrow might not make it but everything's all right.
Mental fiction follow me; show me what it's like to be set free.

Chorus
Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction.
My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone).
No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention.

So sorry you're not here, I've been sane too long my vision's so unclear.
Now take a trip with me but don't be surprised when things aren't what they seem.

Caught here in a fiery blaze, won't lose my will to stay.
These eyes won't see the same, after I flip today.

(guitar solo)

Sometimes I don't know why we'd rather live than die,
We look up towards the sky for answers to our lives.
We may get some solutions but most just pass us by,
Don't want your absolution cause I can't make it right.
I'll make a beast out of myself, gets rid of all the pain of being a man.

Chorus
Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction.
My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone).
No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention.

So sorry you're not here I've been sane too long my vision's so unclear.
Now take a trip with me but don't be surprised when things aren't what they seem.
I've known it from the start all these good ideas will tear your brain apart.
Scared but you can follow me I'm too weird to live but much too rare to die.

This song is referring to the movie and book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson. Bat Country is referring to when the character Raoul Duke "sees" huge bats flying in the air and his attorney Dr. Gonzo stops the car, Duke says: We can't stop here. This is bat country.
The Final line "I'm too weird to live and much too rare to die" is also from a line in the book where Duke describes Dr. Gonzo as "A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

This song is heavily based on "fear and loathing in las vegas" by hunter S. Thomas that was published in 1971. The song name "bat country" comes from an event in the book where the main character, raoul duke, is drugged and hallucinating, seeing giant bats and manta rays in the sky. He then says to his attorney: "we can't stop here. This is bat country. " the first line of the song is a quote by dr. Johnson: "he who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man. " the final line is derived the film adaptation, in which raoul duke speaks the final words about dr. Gonzo: "there he goes. One of god's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. "

Its about the pain of transitioning from a boy to a man. It entails the lonely struggle that a boy must go through - the fire through which he must survive to grow up. The obtaining of strength to leave behind mental obstacles which enchain us, so that we become free in our mind to be men. Because to be a man is to be one can effectively take action when the need arises.

Don't listen to avenged-meanings, no offense. This song is a tribute to the late great Hunter S. Thompson. (Caught here in a fiery blaze, Heat stroke ridden weather) is talking about the desert they (Hunter and his attorney) Crossed to get to Las Vegas. Hunter and his attorney had a huge drug collection they took with them. At the beginning, "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" Is a quote from Dr. Johnson, Who was quoted at the beginning of The movie and book, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". "I'm too weird to live, but much too rare to die" Is a quote from near the end of the book. I would know, I'm a huge fan of both A7x and Hunter Thompson. : D

From what I read in the wiki. This song is based on the movie starred by johny deep. Titled Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, nice song I though, I really like it. Especially the ending bridge., its resembling to life itself lol. At first we are about to kick some a*, then we have our joy, and we get stress out and starting to regret. Soon later were kicking asses again jumped around, like crazy frog. Then get so lost and disturbed till the part of the main bridge you scream. And in the end there you are. Sat in the corner again and have a gloomy regrets.

Nomad17 is correct on where A7x got the influence from the song from. Tho I don't believe that's what its all about simply what influenced it. I've never seen the movie or read the book so I couldn't honestly say, but thsi seems to be about how people try to make themselves better than they should be, but end up making themselves worse in the end. And then they want to go back but need help. Such as using steroids or other drugs.

It kinda makes me think about the things I know about people I know and myself. You can get yourself so down in a bit of a hell, but after a while you can grow addicted to the pain and suffering that you get from it, you let people know but let yourself go too far and no one can help you out of what you have gotten into, and it just affects everything about your mental state which makes you feel as if there is no one else but yourself.
And then the last line in the song "I'm too weird to live but much too rare to die" just fits in with the rest of it. Such a confusing life style and way of thinking that people may fear you. And yadda. My ramblings shall stop lol.
    But awesome song ^^

I believe the song is about having those problems in your life that you don't know how to deal with them. In turn, you turn to an "answer" that merely distracts you from those problems. This "answer" makes you feel good and takes you away.
However, as you continue to take in the "doses" you become addicted. You know its a bad thing, but it makes you feel so good. You look for help from others, but don't really want to make a big deal about it. Sooner or later, more problems arise and your "answer" is one of them. It is a downward spiral and can't be cured on its own. At first you thought you had a hold on things, but at this point you are down on your knees but, you still refuse help. Though, at some point, you will find your way again with some help from a guide that has been through this before.

I think he's hooked on something. But it dusent have to be drugs. The thing is that he is better of with out it. But he loves the feeling of it. I don't think there's anything suicidal about it though. Or maybe the only way to resolve it is to die. Cuz quitting it will be good for him but he will feel pain at first, but that pain might just be too much and he knows it. But if he keeps on being hooked to what ever it is, he just going to end up dead anyways, from overdosing.
I hope its easy to undersand.

This quote is taken from the front page of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas written by Hunter S Thompson. This is a story riddled with drug use, mainly psycadelics. This along with the music video is enough to tell it is about chemical indused escape. "Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction. " He is becoming to attatched to whatever drugs and needs help before he has completely destroyed himself.

"he who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" makes me think that most people do things that take their mind off of other things.
"i've been sane to long my vision's so unclear"makes me think he is tired of living a nomal life.
"now take a trip with me but dont be suprised when things arent wat they seem" makes me think he has made himself a different person and whoever he is talkin to is goin to not see the same person he/she once new.
"my hand is on the trigger im ready to ignight.tomorrow might not make it but every thing is alright.mental fiction folow me;show me what its like to be set free"makes me think suicide, well I'm not sure.
That's what I think so if you agree post it

The songs about a drug trip and you all would know that if you were true a7x fans and if you don't believe me go watch all excess and watch the music video and listen to the directers commentary and avenged sevenfold's na just joking but I'm pretty sure that it is about a drug trip because the directer said in the commentery.

Well, I believe that this song is about the life, death, and after life of our lord and savor jesus christ. Especially the part where he (it) fought off the queen of the spiders in the return of the christ part iii. This is just my humble opinion. However, I am 33. 3% sure that I am right. Because I am smarter than you. You are feeble compared to me. Hail the meat ball king!

It's been a while since I've seen the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but this song is definitely influenced by it. Even the music video looks a lot like the movie, as it shows them on the desert road to las vegas, in a red convertible and they even pass by a hitchhiker and see bats flying everywhere. When they're in las vegas in the music video, like the movie, it shows people turning into lizards and other stuff.

This song was written on influences of other songs. I believe that this song is about addictions. Throughout the songs it has certain lines that symbolize drugs. "Caught here in a fiery blaze...The heat stroke ridden weather...Can't you help me as I"m starting to burn, " are all showing heat. Certain drugs such as alchohol and cocaine make you feel warmer while using them. "Won't lose my will to stay, " is saying that he won't end the high. "Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction, " simply says that he is getting addicted for having too much of the drug. "No one can save me, " means that he is already addicted and cannot get away from it. "Now take a trip with me, but don't be suprise when things aren't what they seem, " is saying to get high with the narrator but you will hallucinate so things may appear different. There are also other lyrics that have the same meanings. The song is dedicated to Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) who was quoted saying,"He who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man".
