I think Jax weighed heavily on the mistake he had made by the the killings of the Chinese and that his own mother killed the one person he loved as much as his Sons and his SOA.
He saw the Angel of Death eating bread and the brief recognition between them he knew then what he had to do.
He saw the Light/Angel/God when he put his hands up as you see his face.
He surrendered himself to touch the hand of GOD. He understood that he could have freedom from his burden on earth and free his sons from the life he lead. He gave himself to the mercy of his deeds with the promise that he will once you touch the hand of GOD, he will make you King.
