    St john was the first lunatic asylum in north america. The song appears to relate to an inmate who was abused in someway by, possibly, their mother, but whom they still cling their hopes on- that mommy will come and save them from the asylum. The patient even still prays for their mother despite their confusion and guilt over their religious beliefs (perhaps caused by the apparent abuse that resulted in them being in the asylum).
