    The song is refering to how sorry someone is after they truly become a Christian and realize how selfish and arrogant they were before they met God personally. It is a big change, especially for someone who becomes a Christian in his or her later years in life. The lyrics say how they will never look back at how the used to act and go back to living that way. (P. S. Relient K is a Christian band, but they don't come right out in their songs and say that because they want to be able to reach out to those that aren't Christians, too!)

    This song, really this band, has helped me through some really hard times in my most recently ended relationship and in just my overall life. To me, this song means that he's refusing to cross lines/boundaries again (stop right there, that's exactly where I lost it; see that line? Well I never should have crossed it) because he doesn't want to hurt people again. He's apologizing for all the things he's said and done (stop right there, well I never should have said that). He's sorry that he didn't change for the better a long time ago (I'm sorry that it took so long for me to change). He bottled up all of his feelings inside and never talked to anyone about it (verse 2) and now he sees that doing so was wrong and it took a major toll on him/his health. All in all, he's apologizing for all of the mistakes that he made in the past and even though he can't take it back, he's going to do all he can to prove that he is sorry. An amazing, insightful song!

    Just like in deathbed, (five score and seven years ago) it doubtfully pertains to matt. The song is about how his new self (after new birth, or repentance) hates and will not revert back to his old sinful self. And because everything happens for a special reason, and/or can be added to god's plan for you, often times bad things happen so you can minister to people in the future who struggle with the same thing.
    Among other things.

    I would have to slightly disagree with you all as I think the meanings are deeper than they seem. It could be anything like to me I have recently had problems with my fiance. She said she doesn't know who I am anymore and wanted the old me back. So I started to realize I need to change back to the fun, happy, loveing, and carefree me she fell in love with. And the moment I returned I felt so bad for what id put her through I think this song is covering that perhaps. But that's only my opinions. Feel free to add to what I've said.
