Panic! At The Disco – This Is Gospel lyrics
This is gospel for the fallen ones
Locked away in permanent slumber
Assembling their philosophies
From pieces of broken memories

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
This is the beat of my heart (2X)
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
This is the beat of my heart
(2X)

The gnashing teeth and criminal tongues
Conspire against the odds
But they haven’t seen the best of us yet

If you love me, let me go
If you love me, let me go

Cause these words are knives, and often leave scars.
The fear of falling apart
And truth be told I never was yours
The fear, The fear of falling apart
Oh oh oh oh oh
This is the beat of my heart ( 2X)
Oh oh oh oh oh
This is the beat of my heart ( 2X )

This is gospel for the vagabonds,
Ne'er-do-wells and insufferable bastards
Confessing their apostasies
Led away
by imperfect impostors

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
This is the beat of my heart (2X)
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
This is the beat of my heart (2X)
Don’t try to sleep through the end of the world
And bury me alive
‘cause I won’t give up
without a fight

If you love me, let me go
If you love me
, let me go

Cause these words are knives, and often leave scars.
The fear of falling apart
And truth be told I never was yours
The fear, the fear of falling apart
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
The fear of falling apart
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
The fear, the fear of falling apart

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
This is the beat of my heart
This is the beat of my heart
The fear of falling apart
(4X)

The meaning of this song is Brendon Urie explaining "Panic! At the Disco" drummer Spencer Smith's experience of addiction to drugs and alcohol. This song was very personal for him to write and said in an interview was afraid to show the song to his manager and the band because of how much meaning the song has to him. Personally, this is my favorite song and when I watched the interview of Urie talking about the album and "This is Gospel" I re-watched the video and cried from the depth that it had. The sentimental meaning this has to not only Urie but, the entire band shows how caring they are for a close friend. Just one more amazing song from an amazing band.

"I wrote it about my friend, Spencer, who was (/is?) battling addiction. One of the lyrics is 'the fear of falling apart,' which I think was the greatest thing I felt at the time. I was really just on edge and anxious about where the future of the band was going, the future of our friendship in general, the future with him and his health, I was just scared, like really scared of what was gonna happen. But I was also very angry, I think, when I wrote that song. Just mad, like, why - mad at myself, mad at him, like, why can't I do something to fix this, what is wrong with me, what is wrong with you, what - you know, just questioning a lot of things. It was such a strong emotion that I tried to capture it as best I could and I felt like I was pretty honest. And when I showed everybody, they seemed to like it in a supportive way, which definitely was validating. I think that's why I made the record."

I think this song is about two friends that are secretly in love with each other but they never said it, and now one of the friends is dating or married to someone else and the person singing is saying that if they truly love them to let them go with their girlfriend/boyfriend/fiance/husband or wife instead of holding them back with the unspoken love. Hence why he says that "truth be told I never was yours" Because he/she was never theirs because of the unspoken love. The words that are like knives is the moment when they finally say their love for one another, and the fear of falling apart was the fear the friends had for perusing their love for one another. Basically it's a song about two people who can't be together.
