    I believe the song could be taken literally or figuratively. It depends on perspective. I've discussed this with a few of my friends and some say they believe it is literal, where there are conjoined twins who are considering separation because they want to do different paths instead of doing what the other wants.

    Others took the conjoining as more of a figurative thing. For example, one of my closer friends stated that the song could be about a relationship that is slowly falling apart. The birthday could represent an anniversary of sorts where they aren't happy because they're having difficulties relationship-wise. The phase "Don't you feel like severing?" Could be asking if they ever considered parting ways. If they should break up/divorce. One of them loves the other and wants to stay close to them, but the other one just wants to get away and they feel isolated because the one doesn't leave them alone. Hence the lines "I just want my privacy... God, won't you leave me alone?" And "I just want yyou here with me. God cant we just get along?" . One is sick of the other and as a result they try to pull away from the relationship.. You can see where it goes right?

    I personally agree with the more figurative term. What do you think?

    I believe this song is about how these two, Evelyn and Evelyn, want two different things but their disability causes them to question if they want to be together. The song states, "Don't you feel like servering". They want to separate, but they fear what will happen. Because of there conjoinment, one feels forgotten as the other is spoiled.

    That also would explain why they want to go separate ways. The song states," (at the same time) I just want my privacy. God Why can't you leave me alone?

    I just want you here with me. God why can't we get along". They don't want to separate, one wants to stay with her sister, while the other wants to separate and live with privacy. They also are upset at birthdays, because they always do what the other wants. The song states,"Fill my glass! Lets drink a toast this is our birthday. So why are we weeping?" That shows that there is sorrow in their birthday, because they never get a "Normal" Birthday. They are forced to have a birthday where things aren't correct. They have to share a bed, wear clothes that cover both, eat what they both want because of their conjoinment. They did, however try to make things better with each other by taking and sharing their thoughts. This song is very deep, and takes a while to understand but it sends chills down your spine like "The Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel.
