    Reading these other interpretations has been interesting, as this is one of my favorite songs. My interpretation is that this is the speaker predicting the emotional loss that their own death will bring to others that care about them. The speaker has reached the end of their life, the end of the day that is representative of their life. "The world is dark, and I've looked as far as I can see" represents that their death (their "night") is coming, and they have done all that they are going to do. In death, we're all "torn apart" whether from old age or another, more abrupt, end. The advice of the speaker is to "let me go" and "let me be." The speaker has lived their life, and the listener still has life left to live. The speaker hopes that instead of the listener spending the life they have left mourning the speaker, the listener will move on to live their own life. There is not only grief ahead, which the speaker predicts the listener is feeling, but there is still happiness to come ("daylight is waiting for you"). This is a melancholy reminder that grief is likely inevitable, but doesn't have to be forever. It's the advice I would love for others to have when I die.

    To me, this song holds a different meaning. I'm a Christian, so I tend to take things in that sense. This song to me describes how hard human life is, how "I've looked as far as I can see". To me that also means that us as humans don't know the answer to everything. We never will.
    On another note, the whole of the song says to me that when we die, our bodies mean nothing. Let the wolves and sharks have us, let us be. Our bodies are nothing- its our souls that were always important. Forget about how we died, say your goodbyes, and let us go.
    "Daylight is waiting for you"- peace will come both for the deceased and those who are stuck on earth. Daylight is waiting beyond the darkness for us all.

    I interpret this as more of a “from the Earth, back to the Earth” stance on death.
    For those of us who no not believe in God, Heaven, Afterlife, etc., it is saying “However I die, let Nature take it’s course.”

    I am at the end, I have seen all I will see, so, let me be.......set me free.
    Don’t allow yourself to get lost in my death, because, daylight is still waiting for you.

    This song touches a deep chord within me because I have a loved one who has suicidal thoughts. "The world is dark, and I've looked as far as I can see..." sounds way too familiar. The depressed person knows that there is daylight, but feels that it is only for others, not for him. The long suspended chords of the music express the long sadness that dwells deep inside a depressed person at all times.

    I think it is about facing the eventual and coming to terms with the finality. it's about what you want done with your body after you are gone. It's about cremation instead of burial. Releasing your body to the whole world instead of a dark box in the ground. Releasing your soul to be one with everything. Circle of Life.

    This song has helped me so much. My mother passed away quickly and unexpectedly in the summer of 2014. She had always voiced her strong wishes for her body to be donated to The Body Farm where they study forensic science. The bodies are put in some pretty rough places and situations. I grieved so long and extra hard after honoring her wish. This song has helped me move past the guilt and horror of what may have been done with her body. It is common knowledge that many of the bodies succumb to the elements (animals, etc). I have found peace in this beautiful song. I feel my mother telling me that it was just her vessel and her spirit is still right here with me. ❤

    I believe this song describes death through the years, before humans buried their dead creatures would feed on them "let the wolves enjoy my bones". Eventually there we're those who believed burial at sea would set a persons soul free "push me out to sea" "set me free" and finally cremation where you turn the body to ash and most people skater their loved one, "let the flames devour me" "throw my ashes to the breeze". Just an educated guess though ;).

    I think the previous respondents have summed it up pretty succinctly. Yes, it does speak to a desire to become one again, to return to the cycle, not to be embalmed and preserved, but let me be, let the wolves enjoy my bones, let the sharks come round to feed....
    It's a sentiment I agree with. When I'm gone, my body was just a vessel. All my troubles are over. Move on...life is for the living. Daylight is waiting for you...
