Coldplay – Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall lyrics
I turn the music up, I got my records on
I shut the world outside until the lights come on
Maybe the streets alight, maybe the trees are gone
But I feel my heart start beating to my favorite song

And all the kids they dance, all the kids all night
Until Monday morning feels another life
I turn the music up, I'm on a roll this time
And heaven is in sight, Ooh

I turn the music up, I got my records on
From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song
Don't want to see another generation drop
I'd rather be a comma than a full stop

Maybe I'm in the black, maybe I'm on my knees
Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes
But my heart is beating and my pulses start
Cathedrals in my heart

As we saw, oh, this light
I swear you emerge blinking into
To tell me it's alright

As we soar walls
Every siren is a symphony
And every tear's a waterfall

Is a waterfall, ah
Is a waterfall, ah
Is a waterfall
Every tear is a waterfall, ah

So you can hurt, hurt me bad
But still I'll raise the flag, Wooh

It was a wa-ah-ah-ah-aterfall
A wa-ah-ah-ah-aterfall

Oh, Oh

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Oh, Oh

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

It's about a teenager who isn't sure about life, so he takes refuge in music, and while listening to music, nothing else matters. He is just waiting to see the light that would guide him. Like him, other teenagers do this. They have fun, dancing all night. Then, eventually, they have to face reality, monday morning. But on 'monday morning', our teenager doesn't give up his fun. He still has his music up and he eventually finds his purpose.
He doesn't shut the world outside anymore. Instead, he rises up from underneath the rubble that he has hidden himself in and rebels. He is tired of the way things are and he wants change for his and other generations to come. He wants to matter. 'i'll rather be a comma than a full stop'. He thinks that he might be alone, not taking any sides, without any allies, opposition from all sides, but it doesn't matter, because he knows in his heart that he is right.
He finally sees the light he has been waiting for. It tells him that the path he has chosen is alright. So, he presses on with it. As he overcomes the obstacles that have been put against him, he realizes that everything is actually bigger than he thought. Every siren is a symphony. Every tear is a waterfall. But he won't let it stop him. No matter how much they hurt him, he won't give up, because there is a much greater need for change than even he ever imagines.

In the midst of trials and times where we don't know if there's a purpose or a meaning behind it all, this song reminds us of that one moment where we realize that we do have the strength to go on. That beautiful side of indignation that won't let us quit. It's better to pause then to come to a full stop. Every little tear we shed is another big lesson we've learned. Every teardrop is a waterfall.

My little brother passed away on sunday and he loved coldplay. This song was one that he played a lot. And so, the meaning of this song for me is: you may be gone, and tears may fall in waterfalls, but no matter where you stand, you can look up and see heaven. Heaven is where my brother dwells--and so, when I look up to heaven, I see him, my every teardrop for him will be waterfall.

I'm not sure if coldplay officially has something to say about what the song means. If not a concrete 'storyline', at least a meaningful interpretative direction within which the lyrics and their meaning(s) remains consistent.
There are some interesting lines like "don't want to see a generation drop", "cathedrals in my heart" etc. But I don't know if all them put together have a linked meaning of its own.

The singer is hurt emotionally, and he shuts the world out. But still, he's crying, and every tear is a waterfall. And then, obviously, a girl emerges. I can't quite explain the line that starts with "so you can hurt, hurt me bad, bu still i'll raise the flag. " possibly saying that she can hurt him really bad, but he still will love her? I don't know about that one. That's what it means, at least to me.

I think this song is about generation Y. The name generation Y comes from the idea that we are just following gen X and that we do not really stand for anything ("i'd rather be a comma than a full stop"). This song show what is important to my generation, most of all is our friends. To us everything that happens with are friend is really and important ("every teardrop is a waterfall"). Maybe all we want to do is party, but if we could get the whole world to party with us wouldn't that be perfect?

To me this song is an ode to friendship/companionship and the comfort we feel from listening to music we share with each other. We may be distant but the sound of a record reminds us of that person that all of the sudden appears in our hearts and tells us everything will be ok.
We may be mourning, sad, or struggling for some reason, but when for a moment we focus on those old songs, keeping the everyday noises out, we all of the sudden forget the pain we feel and only hear the blood pulsing in our veins and that's like hearing Cathedrals organ concertos. . And when our friend finally appears blinking in that light, their presence comforts us and by then every tear we've cried becomes something as beautiful as a waterfall. . Everything negative we're experiencing becomes something positive not a stumbling rock, but a stepping stone to help us grow and reach higher.

I think this song is a description of how every emotion we have feels so enormous to us. Whether a teardrop is for happiness or sadness, you have an extreme of that emotion to produce a tear, so it's a very important and very beautiful thing, like a waterfall :) I think the beginning of the song is a description of how music can encapsulate your emotions and have a massive effect on them, like music does to me :)
Just what this song means to me :)

There is meaning in every sound and in everything. There may just be beauty is what we may perceive as ugly or painful. Whether we are highly successful, or struggling to get by, we all have rough moments, but it will be alright. We should not let those tough times pull us down. But we should be grateful for those moments too. Appreciate that we have another chance to live life to the fullest. Appreciate that you are just hitting a rough patch rather than nearing the dead end. Waterfalls are beautiful after all.

This song to me means every ordinary being has great meaning and purposes regardless its size and form, and that they all have the rights to express themselves in whatever way they want. It should be celebrated that every sentient soul is capable of feeling its own existence and every little emotion symbolizes the significance of its mental and intellectual interaction with the cosmos. Therefore, every teardrop is a waterfall.

It's about forgiveness, and how relieving it is, and how much you can do with it. As well as the willingness to accept what is right, and reject what the author thinks is wrong.
At the beginning he seems a little uneasy, and the only thing keeping him afloat is his music. And he feels that as long as he sticks by his "music" (his morals) that he is going to be doing right from now on.
Then it says he doubts, "maybe im in the black, maybe i'm on my knees" but he sticks to his guns and refuses the bad ideas that the world (two trapezes), is flinging at him, and pulls through with his "music".
"as we saw , oh this light" can represent god's light. And after he has been comforted by god he is able to "soar walls" (vanquish his enemies) and cries many tears of joy after that.
At the end he adds that even though you may hurt him, he will always do what he thinks is right.
