Ashton Edminster – Break The Distance lyrics
[Verse]
If I had a chance
I'd take it faster than a heartbeat

If I caught a glance,
I'd run to you like nobody was watching
But it's so hard to get to you
Cause when you see the sun, I see the moon

[Chorus]
Buckets of water, millions of clouds
Miles of road just to get where you are

Oh I wish, it wasn't so far...
Thousands of dollars just to be near
Countless thoughts of you being here

Oh I wish, it wasn't so hard
But maybe one day we can–
Break the Distance

[Verse]
I know it's hard,
For everyone to understand it

But you're in my heart,
Even though it feels like we got stranded

And I wish I could get to you
See you face to face
Without a screen cutting through

[Chorus]
Buckets of water, millions of clouds
Miles of road just to get where you are
Oh I wish, it wasn't so far...
Thousands of dollars just to be near
Countless thoughts of you being here
Oh I wish, it wasn't so hard
But maybe one day we can–
Break the Distance

[Bridge] x2
Clouds will you please help me out
I need to go and see them now
Pick me up, off my feet
I know that it's crazy
But I am ready with my suitcase by me

[Chorus]
Buckets of water, millions of clouds
Miles of road just to get where you are
Oh I wish, it wasn't so far...
Thousands of dollars just to be near
Countless thoughts of you being here
Oh I wish, it wasn't so hard
But maybe one day we can–
Break the Distance

My understanding of this song probably isn't right haha. But for my understanding I see it as someone wanting to meet their internet friend. If they had the chance then they would accept it right away without thinking much and once they see them they would just run over to them.

This song is about people meeting there internet friends. That's how I've always interpreted it. It's really awesome, though, and it makes me cry because my friend is about to meet her internet friend and she literally played this song (she bought it) about 10 times in a row, before I got sick of it.

My friend showed me this song when we were on a plane to Florida last December and told me Ashton's story of this song and what it's about. She told me that Ashton is a 5 Seconds of Summer fan, 5sos if you will, and wrote this song about them and how most fans don't get to see and meet them like others do. Sometimes they don't even visit their state, and these fans like to think they are family to them and love them dearly. Not just freaking out over their photos, but loving everything they do and what makes these people themselves. They wish they had the money and the luck to just see them in person. Not a lot of people understand that people can love others that they haven't even met so much, but it happens. That is what this song is about.

This song has a lot of meaning for me. A few months ago, I met my wonderful love online. The moment I saw him, something about him stood out so strongly in comparison to everyone else that I've ever seen. That something about him peaked my interest and drew me in. I eventually realized one thing: there was no particular thing about him that was special, for it was everything about him that actually was. The whole distance situation is not always understandable by others. People have expressed their lack of understanding to both of us. Not everyone understands how one can possibly love another that lives far away from them. What people seem to forget when they say that is that if you truly love someone, no obstacle will change that, including distance. Despite what anyone says and the stranded feeling that distance brings about, Jeremy will always be in my heart. It's definitely hard. I see his face on a screen on a daily basis, and I just want him to actually be in front of me. I want to feel his presence more than I've ever wanted anything. I wish that we didn't have to have distance between us, but that won't stop me from loving him. We were able to meet in person for my birthday. I'm flying to see him for the second time next month, and this song is in the playlist of songs I'm going to listen to on my flight. As the lyrics state ("thousands of dollars just to be near"), it isn't going to be cheap. He is worth an infinite amount more than all of the money that it will ever take to see him. I love him so much, and I long for the day that he and I can break the distance for good.

If you are in a long distance relationship, please never let anyone try to talk you out of it. Always listen to your heart. Always be strong. Never give up. If it's meant to be, then the day that the distance can be broken will come. They will be in your arms, and anyone that has ever doubted you will rightfully be proved wrong.

I know it may seem stupid, but this song is about how every fans feel when they think about their idol(s). Many of these teenagers don't have the money to pay a concert ticket or to even go to a meet-and-greet, and this song kinda reflects what they feel, like when Ashton sing "I need to go and see them now".
Sometimes, when they just feel bad or/and depressed, this is one of the first thoughts that comes in their head, so yeah.

This song reminds me of my beautiful girlfriend. She lives in Canada while I'm in the us and we have a two hour time difference between us. This song is our song because we love each other no matter what is between us. It's incredible to think that we can be together for as long as we have even with a long distance relationship. I love her so much and even though I can't see her "without a screen cutting through" like the song says, I still feel like she's always in my heart no matter what.

Okay so this song is about how two people or more are trying to meet, and like me and a bunch of other people have internet friends I'm determined to see her and others and that these people mean the world to each other, even if there parents or whoever thinks its dangerous they are the best people you can meet (I love you Danni) <3 She also sent me a video she made for us with this song!

I feel that this song shows how it feels to have a internet bff or bf or gf, and how the screen separates you two, like the only thing holding you back from the love of your like is the distance, and the song helps show hope for the future that you will be able to meet in person one day, and when you do see that person you will feel an instant connection, even though you have never have seen them other than over a camera. I would love to meet my internet BFF, but shes lives 3,500 miles away from me, and i don't have enough money to go see her. If your reading this renee I love you and you help me so much <3

I read through a lot of these comments about the song and it's confusing me.
First of all, I appreciate that Ashton was a 5SOS fan (I'm not personally) however, many people have taken the interpretation of this song being about their internet friend and wanting to see them and 'breaking the distance' with their internet friends and in all honesty, I take it as the internet friend terms because I do have 'countless thoughts' of them being here and I do wish 'i wasn't so far'. I dislike the phrase 'internet friend' because that implies that they are not your friend, they're merely someone you speak to online. My best friend is nearly 3000 miles away from me. So, its hard.
Anyway, I think the 5SOS theory is a bit far fetched, I just think of it as meeting a friend who lives miles and miles away. I'm not here to tell you what's wrong and what's right, unless we hear it from Ashton herself, we have no idea. I mean Ashton has probably already said what the meaning is, but I fullheartedly believe that its to do with meeting your best friend who lives in bloody Narnia, all in all, this song hits me like a tun of f**king bricks :).

the meaning of this song to me is meeting my internet best friend. he is amazing and i love him so dearly. he lives all the way in new york, while i live in texas. i would love to meet him in person one day, though i dont have enough money to go to new york, but if i had a chance i would immediately take it just as the lyrics " If I had a chance
I'd take it faster than a heartbeat". a lot of these lyrics have a meaning to me. and here are some of them : "Thousands of dollars just to be near",
"Countless thoughts of you being here", "And I wish I could get to you
    "See you face to face
Without a screen cutting through". i love you *****
