This song is about co-dependency. He gives selflessly to people out of love, but discovers that doing everything to make people happy only makes them hate you. Result is that he suffers every time he loves someone.
His only way out is to find a way of giving that comes from a place of inner strength instead of trying to make everybody happy all the time. ("Find the true and inner me").
