The author overheard two guys talking to each other (standing in line or at a restaurant or somewhere in a public place)about how easy it was to make a living if you were in a band. They were comparing how much more effort was required to make money working in a normal type job. The discussion that was overheard was pretty close to the actual lyrics.
I'm not sure what is offensive about this. Just a couple of folks talking about how the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.
