I love this song, and think it's one of Billy's best songs. On the surface it sounds like someone is ready to quit life, but I think Billy at this stage could see he'd peaked in his music career. Don't Say No and Emotions in Motion peaked at #5 on the us charts in 1981 and 1982. This album peaked at #11 and the following album peaked at #61. I think cast in the call of a million smiles is faces he'd seen in concert. He was blown away by them. Can't forget you but I can't hold on must have been touring burnout, or perhaps tiredness of the pressure to produce hits. I still love you when it's over sounds like a message to the fans to me, he still wants them to come back later if he continues.
