I think its about a kid whos been taught that to succeed he needs to manipulate people. And then hes looking back on it and hes disgusted with himself and what he's done. "teach me how to lie" "your getting better all the time" I feel like its a kid talking to his dad. He wants to be like daddy as every lil boy does. And his dad encourages him and teaches him deceit. The boys to young to understand what it all means. His dad would say "nice work you did, your gonna go far kid." and so the poor child grows up under these terrible morals and as an adult he realizes he never had a chance at success or true happiness and probably not even love because he was taught to deceive to get what he wants. Hes angry at what hes become and angry at his dad for raising him how he did. And now the kid has no one to help him fix it. Its too late. Or atleast that's how he feels in this song. This song is sarcastic and spiteful recalling memories and actions and seeing them from another perspective. Its really quite depressing. To feel like your life is a mess and that you were cheated out of every ounce of compassion before you were able to choose for yourself. That's awful.
