Bill Joel once again comments on familiar surroundings in his inimitable satirical way. An excellent commentary on the suburbanization and overdevelopment of his native Long Island. The big machines are the bullodzers tearing down the pines to put up another shopping mall or subdivision while he yearns for simpler times before the Island got so crowded. Although, as Billy himself said in another song, perhaps the good old days weren't always good either.
