Apart from just being a great song, the lyrics convey their anti-pokie message so well. There should be another line at the end saying "another man there was made the trains run on time" which is a reference to both Kennet and Hitler using ill-gotten funds to improve the railways. The comparison is of course a little ridiculous but the Whitlam's have never been shy about their opposition to Liberal government.

Well Emmy44 lyrics do have to make sense. Otherwise why bother having talented songwriters, anyone could do it. These lyrics do make sense to me, I see them as being about the band rebelling against the idea that they have to be responsible for what they write and send a good social message. Basically they're just saying they want to sing what they want because their words are their weapons, they just don't care how they are used.
