I've always wondered if the name "Thistlehair" was given in tribute to southerners' Scotch-Irish and Scottish heritage? There seems to be no other reference to the thistle in the south that is not connected to Scottish heritage. My siblings and I were raised on Alabama's music and we were always made aware of our Scotch-Irish origins, from the music to the wearing of flannel shirts and plaid. Does anyone else have any insights on this topic?
