To me this is a song about loss of innocense and growing up. Sort of reminds me of "To Kill a Mocking Bird" or Jame Joyce's "Araby". The 'life in a music box' is her childhood: simple, entertaining, and routinly. It spins and spins as people, such as her parents, make the decisions for her. Then she 'takes a taste' of the real life, maybe through some kind of life chaging experiance, and it tastes kind of bitter, as soapdoes, but 'it doesn't really taste like soap', because she doesn't fully understand and is interested in finding out more. Then when she 'takes a big gulp' she finaly starts feeling 'the mortality surround' her because she has now lost her innocense and has grown up, which makes her understand life and how bitter it can be. But she also wants to experience it, despite the challenges that come with it because she's tired of her childlike life and wants to "sing a different melody completly", therefore experiance life for what it really is. The whole "everyone is yearning to get out" bit relates to how every child wants to grow up, not realizing that life as an adult can be hard. The main character of this song, however understands and accepts the hardship. It has a very deep meaning but in a lighthearted and hopeful way.
