Obviously this song is about humanity having lost its connection to God and trying to regain it. The "children of a lesser god" line is not deminishing God but refering to our inabilty to hear Him (Children of a Lesser God is a play/movie about deafness). The song starts of with God (father) speaking, calling us to fight evil and to live up to our "promise." The song ends when those who have listened regain their positions as "kings and queens."
