Typically when a human falls in love, they naturally tend to become euphoric/happy and everything isn't just a bunch of matter, and instead it all makes sense somehow. Its the exact opposite of being depressed because those feelings make life meaningless and everything has no purpose etc. Basically he wants to be in love with God because the feeling of love helps him appreciate all the things mentioned at the beginning of the song. There is other ways to trigger those feelings though. Accomplishment/winning/helping/exercise/giving/competition/a mbition/drugs etc.
