Obviously, it's about the trial of a guy who was unfairly convicted to gallows(They never thought of that when they tightend the knot). The papers in the first line are probably the brief. And the Die, die, die, that the crowd sang seems to be the stance of the world against the guy. As regards to the line: "He didn't really do it and you know full well" I assume the guy is Sid Vicous(I'm not sure however).
