Here's what I think. He starts with let me get my story straight, then later refers to the holes in his apology. He probably got drunk and hurt his girlfriend/lover and it left a scar. Months later, while at a bar (again), some guy with sunglasses was asking her about her scar and it brought back all the memories. Him hurting her, him trying to come up with a lie that she would believe, him trying to take it back. But now while at the bar, if they get high enough, they may need each other to carry one or the other out of the bar. And temporarily move on. And forget what happened.
