In the music video for "Elastic Heart" I see the man as an addict almost and maddie being the drug or the addiction it shows how when he lives with her(the drug disease whatever it was) its a struggle and he's always battling his mind and against the addiction. When maddie escapes the cage it shows how broken ad alone the man in the cage is. In one sense I view the cage and a mind setting for the man with the addiction meaning he feels like he's trapped and there's no way out. I viewed this video again after writing that point of view and I saw something else, I saw maddie as almost a spirit type thing. The man was trying to grow up and get rid of his sense of childlike ways. So him fighting maddie reminded me that adults are trying to grow up but once they have grown up there is no going back (the part when maddie makes it out of the cage).

In my opinion this song sounds like the man who is singing, is singing about his father. Saying he would wear the pink tie his father wore on the wedding day possibly. In the begging it's talking about how the father got up and left his mom pregnant with him on Easter morning. In other parts of the song I think he's saying to his father since you got up and left you will never get to see the man his mother raised him to be. Near the end talking about in my opinion his father on his death bed it sounds like a metaphor meaning you are dead to me and there is no use trying to save this relationship between us etc.
