I believe this song is talking about going through something that is all consuming, that you know you cannot go through by yourself so you call upon the Name (Jesus) who helps you "rise above". He will lift you up when you are feeling "helpless". You can't do it alone, which is why the song constantly says "I'll mend myself" but then it calls upon the Name, because you can't mend yourself, you just aren't strong enough. Just call upon the Name of Jesus, he will help you rise above "this"
