I think this song is a tongue-in-cheek look at how our society views mental illness, and those of us who live with it. I am bipolar, and even as a small child, it was apparent I was "different." The song exaggerates, of course, but there are still many professionals in psychiatry and psychology who see the unusual as an abberation that must be rooted out.

I think this song is about finally finding real love. She doesn't have to smother the guy, because she trusts him.
