A powerful song. My advice is to not take the entire body of lyrics seriously - just listen to say every other line or so. "In the beginning"; a new life. A new relationship, a baby kitten, first day on a new job. "Now that you're gone, my word is in shreds": I miss you. Maybe you're dead. Maybe I got fired. Maybe you or I found someone else. But you still mean something to me. "I'm wandering around with my head hanging down tell me where is she(it)" It didn't work out, but you affected me big time. "Don't forsake me cause I love you". This is the biggee. Don't pay a lot of attention to the direct translation; it will mess you up. Focus on the emotion. You were in love with something and it's no longer here. You're sad because it's gone. Nobody really knows who God is or who's in charge, or why things happen. They just do. You loved that kitten because he was so cute. This was playing during your first kiss. This was the theme to your winning sports team. And now it's gone and that sucks! This song is a great example of how music moves us. Maybe they didn't want to leave, but they had to. It wasn't your fault. But that doesn't make what you had any less special.
