I would have to relate to the peeps who interpret this to be about a woman in an abusive relationship. She waits for him to change his ways. He beats her down (verbally/mentally/physically) and encourages her to just stay down. He manipulates her into staying (mouth so full of lies). Eventually she gains strength enough to overcome and leave. (She decides to splatter color on this gray) This is how I interpret this song. When I listen to it, I think of the relationship I just escaped. I think of the way he beat me down with words. I think of the way I hoped things would change (stand up to feel the warmth) but he just got worse (the sunshine never comes). I left him (I'll put an end to this I swear). Even if the words were not written for this purpose, this is what they mean to me.
