In this song if you know what the phrase fools gold means and listen to the lyrics I feel like it's about being used to benefit someone else but he knows he is beings used but she doesn't know he knows-sorry I just quoted friends. But he knows he's being used but throughout this so called relationship he keeps falling more and more in love with her and when she gets what she wanted and leaves. He can't get over her even though it wasn't a real relationship he developed real feelings for someone and he isn't ready to let go of her but she doesn't feel the same.

For some reason I always feel like this song is about trying to get out of the friend zone. I can't contain this anymore but it can mean multiple things I feel like the only people who actually know the real meaning behind this song are the ones who wrote it and the boys but maybe a guy being in love with a girl but not just any girl the girl is his best friend and everything she does makes him fall even more deeply in love with her to the point where he is about to lose control.
