Pretty much the overall meaning behind this song is how he was in a relationship with a girl and it suddenly ended. And now since they aren't together, he doesn't see the joy in anything anymore. Everything is just plain to him, there is no more happiness. He misses her and greatly wishes to have her back in his life again. Towards the end of the song he says he knows she will a beautiful life with somebody else, but he wishes she would be with him.

This song is pretty much about Layne's addiction and struggle with drugs. When he says "I've tried to hide myself from what is wrong for me" shows that he was trying to be sober, but in the end we all know he didn't succeed. And other parts of the song show reasons as to why he abuses drugs.

He loves her so much to a degree where he wants her to take out all her anger she has towards something else that happened to her and put it out on him so she will feel better. He is pretty much saying that other people have been controlling her whole life and now she is finally saying no to all of them and making her own life decisions.

We're living in repetition.
Content in the same old shtick again.
Now the routine's turning to contention,
Like a production line going over and over and over, roller
Coaster
The same thing happens in their relationship every single day, nothing exciting happens. He probably wishes there would be a change.

Now I cannot speak, I lost my voice.
I'm speechless and redundant, 'cause I love you's not enough.
I'm lost for words, now I cannot speak
He loves her a lot, but even if she just says I love you, he can tell that she doesn't actually mean it. They are just words.

He is resents and in every way possible HATES this guy. Even that he is sick and has cancer, he doesn't care. Everything about this guy annoys him and the anger and rage in this song shows it. I'm not sure who he is talking about, or what this guy did to him, but it's pretty obvious the level of hatred for him is past 100.

I watched an interview of Billie Joe a looooong time ago when I was really obsessed with them, and he was pretty much saying that all of their songs had a meaning behind them even if it isn't very clear. But he said that this song "Nuclear Family" doesn't really relate to anything he has experienced in his life, and even though he wrote it, he doesn't really even know what it means. Lol.

He doesn't want to give in to the ways of the government. He doesn't want to be like everyone else and how they are controlled by every day routines in society. He pretty much just wants to be his own person and not be told what to door have to fall in line with everyone else. Green Day fans know that their main focus in their music is about the government and standing against it, being the minority.

Meaning
This song is definitely about Billie Joe's wife, Adrienne. She is from Minnesota and he met her at one of his shows, and ever since then he has loved her. Now they have two kids together, Joey and Jakob. They are even still married to this day and celebrated their 20th anniversary last year.

This song is about being bored and having nothing to do where you live. So, instead of doing nothing, to pass the time you masturbate or get high. I mean honestly, if you're bored and have nothing better to do, those aren't bad options. And all Green Day fans know that Billie Joe, Tre, and Mike grew up in a place that didn't have much to do. I don't blame them.

In my opinion (which I could be wrong,) I think this song is about a boy who likes to dress up in women's clothes and doesn't want people to know. And when his father finds out he makes him go to therapy, which he doesn't want to. I'm guessing he doesn't want people to know he is a cross-dresser.

This is about his girlfriend who leaves him for another guy. He keeps talking about how he don't think it will last very long and that in the end she will come back running to him and he doesn't want to be there when it happens. He figured out how she really is and never wants to be with her again.

Bombs away is your punishment!
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government!
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree!
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me!
Just cause, (hey), (hey), (hey), (hey)
Just cause, because we're outlaws, yeah!

I beg to dream and differ
Green Day loves to talk about how the government isn't right at that moment, and this explains what's wrong with it.

Billie Joe did an interview a long time ago and talked about what this song was about. He said that he was talking about it from a Meth head's point of view, and the causes of doing meth. What made him want to write this is the fact that he knew plenty of people that were his friends that were addicted.

There goes my drama queen
She's old enough to bleed now
This just shows that she has grown up and isn't the same little innocent girl that she used to be when she was young.
+ 4
Meaning
I think this song is about a girl who was once innocent and sweet when she was young, and now is all grown up and is the opposite. She is a woman now and doesn't act like a child. Everyone used to love her when she was "daddy's little girl," and now people don't really like who she has become in the long run.

In my opinion I think Billie is singing about a guy that takes his girlfriend away from him. And how he has never even met him, yet he knows he hates him for what he has done. He admits that he might just be jealous of him, or he is just dumb.

Meaning
This song is definitely about drugs, in all honesty. Billie was singing about how it was to be high when he was younger in his room, it's pretty obvious. "My mouth is dry, my face is numb, f*cked up and spun out in my room," is just one of the many clues that shows what the meaning is behind it. And not being able to sleep is one of the many side affects to certain drugs. And also "My sense's dulled, passed the point of delirium," are some other context clues that prove this song is just about drugs.

I personally feel that this song is about a guy who loves a girl and would do pretty much anything for her. He excepts her for all that she is and all of her little flaws. Since Chris sings "you're skin and bones turned into something beautiful," maybe he means that she's had trouble with loving how she looks, and he is reassuring her that she is beautiful in every way possible. For some reason, I don't know why, I get a kind of sad vibe from this song. But, it is still one of my favorites.

This song is about a couple, and he knows he let her down. He excepts the fact that he made multiple mistakes and that she deserves better. But, he is still beaten up and upset about not having her anymore after she leaves. He is mostly upset because he felt a huge connection with her that he hasn't felt with anyone else before and he knows he is the one that messed it all up.

Meaning
This song is about a couple that is definitely not meant to be together. The girl lies and cheats on him, and won't admit to it. She says she loves him, but he can tell in the way she acts and treats him that she doesn't and that she is just toying with his emotions. But in the end, he doesn't want to be the one to break up with her because she is the one that caused all the problems and he believes it only makes since for her to finish it. Their relationship is definitely not happy or healthy for a fact.

You've become a part of me
You'll always be right here
You've become a part of me
You'll always be my fear
I can't separate
Myself from what I've done
Giving up a part of me
I've let myself become you
Chester is saying that he has turned out just like the person he hates instead of himself, which makes him very upset. He gave up a part of him and replaced it with a piece of the other person instead.

I believe that this song is about his ex spouse, and how he can't stand the thought of her anymore. He has pure hatred towards her and wishes that she would just forget about all the times they had together. She mentally and emotionally changed who he was and he didn't like who he'd turned out to be afterward. His ex pretty much degraded him and he is saying that he is better off without her and doesn't want her around ever again.

Meaning
This song is about Chester's struggle with drugs and how he was trying to quit. He also explains how when he was going into withdraw he was a very angry person and didn't understand why he would say or do the things that he did. He accepts the fact that his actions were wrong and admits to them, and how he doesn't really understand how became that way in the first place. But in the end, he breaks the habit.

She's pulling her weapon to her side
Loading it full of her goodbyes
Holding an enemy across the line
I'm guessing that she is thinking about suicide, and she realizes that really her only real enemy is herself. So she tries to end her life.

I honestly for the longest time thought that this song was about self harming, and at the the time I could relate. But now that I've listened to it a lot more since then... I feel like it's just a good tune to listen to. Looking back I can see why I thought it was about self harm though, the chorus pretty much implies that. Or a tampon... Either one.

You say that it's not your fault
And swear that I am mistaken
Chester Bennington is saying that this person won't own up to what they've done to him, and that they are being too cowardly to tell the truth about it. Even when he has the facts that they did.
