I think this song is about a guy madly inlove with a girl.
But the guy took the girl for granted at first and when the girl left, the guy realized how he truly loves her and was saying, "I can do better." It means he wanted a second chance with the girl.
And the guy is saying in, "Don't tell me I can make it on my own," the guy can't go on with out the girl even though the girl said he can.

I remember my guy best friend from this song. The both of us have never been in a relationship being more than best friends.
He was wild, crazy and insane. He turns my world upside down and turn it all around. We're so comfortable with each other. We tease each other and sometimes I thought if we could be more than friends. But my guy best friend always tells me about his dream girl, so I didn't asked him but still, I hoped. Until it came to a part that I thought I needed to let it go.
I searched for another guy, the second guy was perfect. He was everything I wanted and it turns out he likes me too.
But I don't like the second guy as much like the way I loved my guy best friend.
