I think this song is about her witnessing what she thought love really was fall apart and once she realizes she is falling in love all the rules she had about love kept coming to mind and the she realized he's the exception to all those rules and by the end of the song she realizes that her love with someone else can be completely different from the love she witnessed fall apart with her parents.
