I think the song is about losing a girl. You hurt her (regardless of reason) you've hurt her and whens she's feeling down you're not in good standing and if she leaves you've got to move along.
Then, she is approached by someone who wants to get in her mushy business and when they find out the problem with her, you are the culprit. Your relationship structure collapses. You can withstand her with someone else as long as she comes back to you. Otherwise, you are with other girls but not happy. The bird is rat too, goin after your love affair and good-looking girl.
To move on, you reorganize your life to prevent this s*t from happening again.
