"what", I think you're missing the entire message of his lyrics. John Mayer is a brilliant song writer, and you saying that "It's as if he ran out of things to say..." is ridiculous. He's reiterating the point his trying to get across, which seems to be, look past your pride, and if you've got something to say then just say it. It's not about running out of lyrics. It's about getting a point across.
