They are talking about hypocritical christians in this song! "If we have chosen to live against the grain then why are we all facing the same way"! They are saying that lots of people claim to be chrisitan but still live the same secular lifestyle as before! When they say "what use is there in praying if you will only hear what you want to hear" means that if you aren't going to listen to what God is telling you why pray at all! The first chorus even states that "We have all heard what we wanted to hear "truth" that sound right to our ears"! They are talking about all the people who twist and bend the Bible and Christianity to fit their lifestyles! That is why the word truth is in parentheses! It isn't really truth just what people beleive truth to be!
