For anybody who would say 'i was here', maybe they mean to tell that they already have fulfilled their duty as a person. Meaning differ in every situation. For a struggling friend, telling her 'i was here' means that she's not alone. For those who take their love ones for granted, 'i was here' might mean that loved ones were all the way there for us, however, we were very busy doing other things that when they're gone, we could not blame them and all that we can do is feel sorry for ourself.
