In "Dear Magnolia" there lies the story of one man's embracing his connection to the South. The lyrics brush upon the times before and after the Civil War, the hard changes and long road to the South recreating itself, it's history (and present) civil rights abuses but above all the strength and spirit of the South to survive. It is a ballad of love, recovery, not just of the South, but of a man accepting and loving his connection. It is his pledge to withstand the troubles until "the moon above comes shining through the smoke in the name of love."
