I think this song is about some One who has experienced a lot of bad things and seen bad things where they are no longer innocent because hey know things they shouldn't knw and wants to stay safe inside scared of what outside would do to him or her because that's what they were getting a lot of this exposure from. They are stuck in the dark with the remembrance of those bad times and need someone to restore someone special that can make them at peace within ones self again and personally a lot of people say it is about god I truly don't believe in him sometimes like I question if he's real but I don't want you to judge me because I don't have god in the way I think the song is about.
