Daremo ga butterfly butta spider
Everyone wants to be perceived as being beautiful for what they look like rather than what their actions are. Whilst butterflies might look beautiful, a spider's web is much more amazing. People are beautiful but it is what they do that makes them known but others don't seem to understand that and think they're "ugly" without really knowing them.

When the kids start
This could be linking to the fact that on Christmas Day during World War I the fighting stopped and they played football over the trenches. The singer is hoping that all fighting stops and every day to be peaceful. http://www.history.com/topics/world-war-i/christmas-truce-of-1914

This one
Mining, I imagine, was hard work and dangerous, which suggests Jovi is saying that this song is for those who work hard to get the "miracle" they want, and is willing to take risks in order to get it especially if it doesn't seem likely to happen.

on and get up off
This song suggests to me that you shouldn't follow people in authority just because they're in authority, it is about taking a stand for what you believe in because otherwise nobody else is going to do it. And who knows (?) once you've stood up to what you believe in, you might find others also believe in it.

Translation from French: Love needs faith.

Personal meaning: People need to believe that love happens and even if one relationship turns bad, another relationship might turn out good. Love isn't just "at first sight" - it really happens.

So many,
Bright lights they cast a shadow,
But can I speak?
Well is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete?
A life that's so demanding,
I get so weak.
A love that's so demanding,
I can't speak
It suggests that whilst people are getting fame for things, they still do not have a voice in what is said (about them). The 'bright lights that cast a shadow' could be the after image of a picture before it quickly fades, suggesting that their un-perfect life can only be seen for a short while. That their famous life demands for them to be 'perfect' all the time and act as a 'role model' but perhaps the singer here doesn't enjoy this. The lines are set out that the singer can sing more on the lines when they're describing what is going on, but on the lines they are saying their own opinion, it is shorter, which reflects the lack of/no voice they have. The questions they have to ask to confer what they are thinking, suggests that they don't really know what they're allowed to say or how they're allowed to feel. However, they do know that they're 'weak' and 'can't speak'.

His eyes of ''china blue'' (which is grey-blue) suggests that whilst Vincent tries to see his live clearly, the negative things cast a 'grey sky' in front of him. For me, the line ''ragged men in ragged clothes'' reminds me about how in ''Vincent and the Doctor'' (Doctor Who) The ''raggedy'' Doctor met Vincent, (However, this song was made about 30 years before this episode). The ''bloody rose'' suggests that whilst we now see the artist's work as outstanding, the suffering he had to face whilst he was alive has ''broken'' the purity of his art.

The doctor lays that new baby's head right on her heart
These lines are subtlety powerful as they link back to the main theme of 'eighteen inches. Head to your heart' but uses a new motif of the baby instead of the parents.

Alien nation (2 words) could suggest the Roswell landings of 1947. This could also be taken as Alienation (1 word) as the words are said quite quick and slurred together, which could suggest that the media and other authoritative figures put you ''in your place'' by promoting one side of the story.

'Coz every day could be a good old day
'Coz is colloquial (informal) for the word 'because'.

This is saying that each new day has the chance of being 'good' so just because the previous day was bad, does not mean that the new day is.

Hear the rime of the ancient mariner
This song is based on the poem 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. I have noticed that this song uses no archaic (old fashioned) words that Coleridge's poem uses, so the message of this song/poem may be easier to follow.

Meaning
I was looking at the chord progression of this song, and going from that, I found it too repetitive (I know songs need a bit of repetition, but this repeated the same idea around 8 times). So it suggests that this song is only 'good' due to the fact that others use peer-pressure to get others to, and they give into peer-pressure due to the desire to be 'right', rather than the song's music. Later, I was discussing with a friend and we both agreed that had this music been written for a gcse level, it would have only gotten a D, possibly a low C. (I got asked to why 'i didn't like it', this is my reason). If I weren't looking at the music itself, I would probably enjoy it, but now I've looked at the music, I can't change that belief. In regards to the lyrics, they empower both young men and women that they are the future and that they have the right to make their own choices in their life. The fact that she's walking in the snow but there is no 'footprint to be seen' suggests that she doesn't want to remember where she came from and therefore does not look for the tracks. 'Let it go' could be talking about 'letting go' of the smaller mistakes in life, and looking to the future. For me, the line I like best is 'funny how some distance makes everything seem small' because it suggests to me that everyone looks at me from a distance, and doesn't really understand. Rating - (short summary) Music = 1/5. Lyrics = 4/5.

From the young man in the 22nd row
Perhaps meaning could be found in the fact that Marilyn Monroe's waist size was 22 inches.
It could also suggest that the 'young man' (Elton John) was looking at her life from a distance, perhaps not caught up with the 'fame' and seeing her life for what it was.

Meaning
This basically is saying, yes 'we're all little people in a little world' but if we let people believe that, then they're only going to use that to their advantage to make you feel 'little'. It talks about getting revenge in the childish way possible by being 'naughty' (I imagine a water squirter) but whilst highlighting important things about getting your voice heard, even if you have to act innocent in order to do it. Deceive them because they'll believe it, because you're 'little' they will think you're 'small, innocent, something that you can ignore', until you give them a reason not to ignore you. It suggests that we make our lives seem worse than it is, for example, the story is that 'Cinderella' had to do lots of chores and work hard, but here it suggests that actually she didn't, but with the 2/3rds, it suggests that Cinderella had to do a little of the work. It suggests that we should do our part in society to make a difference, as the rest of society is already doing what they can. But it also talks about how you have to make that change, and nobody else is going to. It suggests that our future is pre-written unless you change it.

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us
The line 'we are all misfits living in a world on fire' suggests that we are all 'people' and that no two people are the same so really we are 'all misfits living in a world' where none of us can get along. I feel that it is a little un-accepting of others as it says 'we have to stick together', suggesting that we won't accept anyone else just because they're not a 'misfit' in the exact same way that the singer/reader is. This song then goes on to say 'People like us we gotta stick together' which suggests that if we are 'people' then we have all got to 'stick together'.

We come into to this world unknown,
But know that we are not alone.
They try and knock us down,
But change is coming, it's our time now
This is suggesting that when we come in to the world, nobody really knows us as we don't really know the world around us either.
Reading from just 'world unknown' this could be suggesting that we are alone in the universe.
