Its about war. Specifically, the Viet Nam war and the war in the middle east. Viet Nam was a war without end as the lyrics express, as is the war in the middle east. The latest war in the middle east seems the same, hence like Deja Vu All Over Again. References to the writing on the wall has a double meaning;i. i.e. should have seen it coming and the Viet Nam Memorial wall with the names written there. How we count the dead and dying, sending bodies home while the networks all keep score is a direct reference to Viet Nam in the sense it was the first war to ever come into our homes. Iraq and Afghanistan is the same thing again. Great song.
