To me this song is about oblivion. It's about how the world is just a cycle of meaningless occurrences and meaningless people. Meaningless things. (Cycling trivialities). No one will be remembered in the long run. (Who will remember the players? Who will remember the crowns?) The whole first section before the chorus (Too blind. Pass you by) is Jose realizing this oblivion, realizing that nothing will matter, that nothing will be remembered. (Different now, every step feels like a mile, all the lights seem to pass you by) The chorus is expressing this idea: at its deepest level, life really is just cycling trivialities. The song seems to express a realization that all of our dreams that we pursue, all of our fights or moods, none of it matters. (Who cares in a hundred years from now, All your small steps, all your sh*tty clouds, Who cares in a hundred years from now). I absolutely love this song. It expresses different things to different people. To me it's my fear of oblivion, of being forgotten, of pursuing dreams and working hard and fighting and laughing for nothing. For it to all just be cycling trivialities.
