I think this song is about how a celebrity lives and how they feel during the time spent as a celebrity. I think that the song means exactly what it says. Their lives are overwhelming but they'd rather be doing what they're doing than be stuck behind a desk all day. I think that when the song says they're 'fated to pretend', they mean that they live their lives like it's just a game, pretend. They don't care about what happens to them or what might happen to them. I think this song is actually kind of funny because it says 'i'll miss the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone' and you know he's talking about being a celebrity and how there's never a dull moment or any privacy and you can never just go to the store without anyone coming up to you. It actually makes me glad I'm not going to get into the music business: p
