Hmm. I always interpreted it about drugs. Not just cause he says he got high. "The only way out is letting your guard down and never die forgotten." the only way to get like out of drugs and that stuff is to allow people to help you. And you have to be prepared for people to hold it over you for the rest of your life and possible even afterwards hence "never die forgotten." "Forgive me my love, I stand here all alone and i can see the bottom" obviously someone he cares about knows what he is doing so he apologizes. But he knows where his problem is going to take him and he's not dragging anyone but himself down. And overall he doesn't want her to get involved and just to quit while she can. I may be wrong, I may be right. There is obviously more than one way to interpret it.
