Ok this is where I think you're all wrong. Me not being a religious person (not Atheist, but Agnostic), I can see both sides of this. Yes it can be taken just like jamesthesasquatch said or you can see the darker side of it. Do you not thinking he's questioning his own faith? Just like where he says "But what wisdom is there within us to live based on the feeling of our hearts. How many times has instinct let us down. Never to be thought through. Never to be questioned." Basically, religion is something that's in your hearts, just like God. There's no factual proof that any of it exists aside from a book that you take for "truth". You follow it based on instinct never to question it. Verse 2 goes on some more about that internal struggle of your faith. Do you falter or do you hold fast to that belief? "We speak of fighting this world (the evils), but what about the battle within us (the internal struggle)?" And when he says sentiments, that could mean your feelings about God. "There is no difference between us (religious people) and them (non-religious) if we all blindly seek truth from sentiments (our feelings)."
