I think this song has a double meaning if you go by the music video then its bout the environment but if you just listen to the lyrics of the song and listen for when the back vocals say "whoa whoa" then that is were the true meaning lies. The reason why artist do subtle back vocals is not just because it sounds good it is to emphasize the led singer and what he is saying. Not many artist use this technique today due to the fact that most modern day music as literal definitions in the lyrics. This is an older style of music and I don't know what is called.
