I think like all songs you take that much that relates to you personally. I lost my husband of 35 years April 2017. For 35 years we had the ups and way downs & every damn thing in between, raised kids & grandkids. We both loved this song but it spoke to me about the trials & different calling two people feel in a relationship. These were the lines that got me: ~So we cheated & we lied & we tested. We never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do. You will survive brewing bested.~ He & are we’re both stubborn as hell & he used to say, “Ok what test did I fail this time? Well you’ll live be bested once in awhile.” LOL. I held him in my arms & begged him not to leave me. Miss him every day & I will for the rest of my life. ~Think about how many times we have fallen. Spirits are using me, larger voices callin’. What heaven sent you & me cannot be forgotten.~ (Not typical spirituality. We were & are atheist.)
